Region II - American National Cattlewomen Meeting

Georgia will be hosting the Region II meeting in 2022. National Cattlewomen members and state members can attend regional meetings across the nation. These trips encourage members to become better cattlewomen through workshops, discussions, and presentations. These can range from how to influence legislation to improving cross generational differences on the farm. An important part of the meetings is having the chance to fellowship and build relationships with other passionate cattlewomen. After a busy few days, the group often tours the area around the meeting. Region 2 member states include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Georgia Cattlewomen's Annual Meeting

February - Our annual meeting is held in conjunction with the GA Cattlemen’s Association Convention. This year the meeting will be held virtually over Zoom. All members are welcome to join our annual meeting. Officers are elected, new board members are installed. The President's update and guest speakers set an invigorating tone for the year. This is a great chance to meet the officers and directors, visit with other cattlewomen from around the state and see old friends. Throughout the convention GCWA hosts a raffle drawing with the proceeds going to the two scholarships that GCWA awards each year.

Georgia Junior Beef Futurity

July - Each July at Perry’s Agricenter, Georgia 4-H and FFA host the annual Georgia Junior Beef Futurity. Students compete with their steers and heifers and this show sets off the show season. GCWA provides showmanship awards in order to support youth’s daily efforts, their dedication to improvement and their involvement in the GA cattle industry.

Cattle Drive for Hunger

Applications due July 31, 2022 - While cattle is raised in all 159 Georgia counties, not everyone is able to enjoy their products. In recognition of National Hunger and Homeless Awareness, the GCWA annually gives $100 grants to food pantries or homeless shelters to buy beef products to feed the needy in their communities. The winners are announced in September. Please share this opportunity with family, friends, and acquaintances, through social media or the old-fashioned word of mouth!

Georgia National Fair

October -. When thinking of the fair you can't forget about food, so the GCWA presents the “Best Beef Recipe” Contest every year. GCWA  has two divisions for the “Best Beef Recipe Contest”. There is an Adult division which is 18 and up, and the Youth division which is 9 to 17. The cut of beef used for the cooking contest is decided on each year. It’s held in the Georgia Living Building next to I-75. Details can be found on the Georgia National Fair’s web site under Georgia Living. GCWA also assists the Georgia Beef Board at the GA National Fair in the Agricenter in Perry. The Beef Story exhibit includes a display of beef by-products and hands-on youth activities. Over the two weeks, GCWA members help distribute thousands of beef recipe books and nutritional information to the general public and will speak with individuals curious about the cattle and agricultural industries.

Sunbelt Ag. Expo

October - Each October, Moultrie, GA hosts a premier agricultural trade show demonstrating the latest farming technologies.  With 1200 exhibitors, 300 seminars and more than 80,000 visitors the Sunbelt Ag. Expo is clearly a renowned southeastern event. GCWA’s booth is housed in the Family Living Building. Our Georgia Cattlewomen spring into action, taking advantage of the popular 3-day event by creating a consumer-focused display all about beef. Our members distribute recipes, nutritional information, teacher resources and industry information. While passing out materials, our cattlewomen also fulfill our mission by talking face to face with and answering any and all of their questions they may have about beef and agriculture.
