Collegiate Scholarship

GCWA is pleased to present scholarships to graduating high school seniors and current collegiate students pursuing degrees in Agriculture. The scholarship can be used at a college, university, or technical/vocational school. Our well-rounded students share their school and community related activities. They also include honors and awards ranging from their school level all the way to national competitions. Applicants describe their career plans and their specific academic interests that will allow them to meet their professional goals. Finally, we ask students what they believe the two most important issues facing the cattle industry today. Whether the applicants were raised on farms or they began their agricultural education in high school, we are proud to financially support future industry leaders. Applications are due by March 1st.

Jason Chapman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship funds a paid internship for a student that is pursuing a degree in an Agriculture field. The Georgia Cattlemen’s Association choses the recipient and they work as an intern in the GCA office for the summer. He or she helps out doing various jobs, helps the Cattlewomen at the GCA Summer Conference and learns about the cattle industry.

This scholarship is named in memory of an extraordinary young man who passed away on September 18, 2012, as the result of a tragic car accident. Jason was only 26 years old and was living back in his hometown of Washington while he pursued a career having recently completed his master’s degree in Agricultural Leadership from the University of Georgia. He had also earned a Bachelor of Science with a minor in Animal Science and a major in Ag Communications. Jason had also attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and received an associate’s degree in Agriculture.

Kamren Yaghn from Peach County High School was a 2022 GCWA scholarship recipient.

Katlyn Davis of the University of Georgia was a 2022 GCWA scholarship recipient.

Cattle Drive for Hunger

While cattle are raised in all 159 Georgia counties, not everyone is able to enjoy their products. In recognition of National Hunger and Homeless Awareness, the GCWA annually gives 5 $100 grants to food pantries or homeless shelters to purchase beef products. These awards are based on how organizations serve their communities and how they will utilize those grants. Applications due July 31, 2021. The winners are announced in September. Please share this opportunity with family, friends, and acquaintances, through social media or the old-fashioned word of mouth!
